SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 2, 2003 — McKinnon-Mulherin Inc., an information design firm owned by Shauna Bona and Kate Reddy, will sponsor a New Year fundraiser for the Utah Coalition Against Sexual Assault (UCASA) on Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. McKinnon-Mulherin’s offices are located at 136 South Main Street, Suite A300. There will be food and beverages, music, educational materials and presentations, a silent auction and plenty of interesting, passionate people.
UCASA provides leadership, vision and resources to rape crisis centers, individuals and other entities committed to ending sexual violence by way of advocacy, training and technical assistance. They are the only organization of this kind in Utah. UCASA advocates for programs that support people affected by sexual violence. Also, UCASA is leading the charge to reform Utah’s criminal justice system so that victims of sexual assault are not revictimized by the courts.
Utah is currently ranked 14th in the nation for per capita sexual assaults. Regardless, the state of Utah does not fund any sexual violence prevention programs. Consequently, agencies that promote education and awareness and provide services for survivors of sexual violence compete for a small pool of federal funds. Because of the great need for services in Utah and the scarcity of resources, many agencies, including UCASA, lack sufficient funds for 2003.
This fundraiser is an opportunity to show friends and associates what UCASA does. They want to bring you information about sexual violence that you may not get elsewhere and hear what you have to say about the issues. And they want you to invest in this movement. This event is a fundraiser. They will ask you to give generously, so be prepared and bring your checkbook.
To reach suite A300 at 136 South Main Street, enter through the Kearns building and take the elevator to the third floor. If you choose to park in the Ampco lot behind the Kearns building, the parking manager has agreed to give attendees a discount.
We look forward to seeing you there!
